I Want to Go Everywhere

In my family, the driver controls the radio. While I don't believe in dictatorships, I think this is a good rule. I'm a benevolent dictator when I drive. I keep in mind that my wife and daughter hate the nasally Willie Nelson and the guttural Bob Dylan, so I abstain from including them on road trip playlists. I also take requests when I'm driving.

Currently the following are my daughter's five most requested songs:

  • "I've Been Everywhere" by Johnny Cash

  • "Ring of Fire" by Mr. Cash

  • "Love Shack" by the B-52's

  • Any song from the Harry Potter soundtrack

  • "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga

"I've Been Everywhere" has even inspired our buckets lists. We've both set the goal to visit every place mentioned in the song. Below is a list of places mentioned in the song, and in red are the places I've visited:

P.S. "I've Been Everywhere" was originally an Australia song and listed places in that country.

  1. Hey... you need to highlight Colorado!

  2. I believe I've visited or at least driven through 18 of those places. Usually I like your music picks (at least those on your blog), but I have to agree with your wife and daughter about Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan. I love your dd's top 3 picks, and although I am not a fan of Lady Gaga, it's hard for me not to sing "Poker Face".

  3. About 40. But 45 years in the Army, we moved around a lot.

I said about, because I've sort of been through some of the towns but not entirely sure if I've actually been in them. Like, Waterloo. I've been by Waterloo Records in Austin, TX. Drove near Waterloo, IL when driving from St Louis to Cape Girardeau. And by Waterloo, WI when heading to Lacrosse, WI with the Illinois National Guard ... which, coincidentally, isn't far from Davenport, IA, but is no where near Davenport, FL or Davenport, CA.

And have been by Waterloo, NY enroute to Watertown, NY, home of the 10th Mountain Division, which was formed in Colorado, where you'll find the Waterloo Ice House, in Louisville (another town on the list), which, if you check out their website:
    http://www.waterloolouisville.com/

... brings us back to Johnny Cash all over again.

  5. Been a follower of your blog for a long time. Fun post..and great idea for a bucket list. Been wanting you to send out mixed tapes or Cd's to your anonymous followers! Enjoy Charleston. Spent lots of time there in my younger years. Great Southern town.
